Why You'll Love This Sugar Cookie Latte
Sugar cookie flavor - This latte tastes just like your favorite sugar cookie! It has vanilla, almond extract for that almond and marzipan-like flavor, and a touch of butter extract. It's almost like an upgraded festive Iced Vanilla Latte! You can make it both hot and iced.
Easy and simple - The homemade Sugar Cookie Syrup has only 5 ingredients and takes less than 15 minutes to make or you can use store-bought syrup like Monin to speed things up even more! The latte takes only a couple of minutes, perfect for making your coffee delicious even on busy mornings.
Better than store-bought - Making your own lattes at home is budget-friendly and with a homemade syrup as well, you know exactly what's going in and how much sugar it has. This latte is inspired by the Starbucks Sugar Cookie Latte and I'd say it's a close match! It will cost you a fraction of the price and it's so delicious!
Ingredients
- Espresso - You'll need two shots of espresso for a regular-size latte.
- Oat milk - You can use any milk you'd normally use in your lattes, oat milk, almond milk, cashew milk, whole milk, or any other milk. Coconut milk is also great but I don't recommend using canned coconut milk because it's too thick.
- Sugar cookie syrup - I highly recommend using homemade Sugar Cookie Syrup but you can also use store-bought syrup like Monin or Torani.
- Whipped cream - This is optional but you can top the latte with some whipped cream. Both regular and vegan whipped cream work. I used a handheld blender to make homemade whipped cream using heavy whipping cream.
- Sprinkles - My favorite sprinkles to use are either these Rainbow Sprinkles or these Rainbow Nonpareils. Both are by Watkins and have no artificial dyes.
Variations and Substitutions
- Decaf - If you want to avoid caffeine, use decaf espresso beans or decaf coffee pods.
- Different coffee - While this drink is best made with espresso, you can also use cold brew or any other coffee if you don't have an espresso maker. Keep in mind you will need to adjust the amount because espresso is stronger so you need less of it.
- Store-bought sweetener - If you don't want to make your own syrup, you can use any cookie-flavored store-bought syrup you like. I like this Monin Cookie Butter Syrup.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Fill a tall glass with ice ¾ way up.
- Froth your milk (optional) and pour it over the ice.
- Add sugar cookie syrup.
- Brew two shots of espresso and pour them over the milk.
- Top the latte with whipped cream and sprinkles if desired and enjoy!
I highly recommend making your own whipped cream using whipping cream or you can mix it with a little bit of milk and froth it to create cold foam! Vegan whipped cream made with coconut milk is also a great option.
Serving and Storing
You can serve this sugar cookie latte both hot and iced. To make it hot, just skip the ice and warm up your milk either in a milk frother or on the stove.
Adding whipped cream and sprinkles on top is totally optional. You can also garnish it with a small cookie or half of a regular cookie on top right before serving if you want to make it extra special!
The finished latte is best served right away, I don't recommend any part of this drink to be made ahead except for the syrup.
If you make your own Sugar Cookie Syrup, it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze it in a freezer-safe container for up to 3-4 months.
FAQs
Here are the measurements for each size of an iced latte.
Tall: 1 shot espresso, ⅓ cup milk, 1-2 tablespoon syrup
Grande: 2 shots espresso, ½ cup milk, 2-3 tablespoon syrup
Venti: 3 shots espresso, ⅔ cup milk, 3-4 tablespoon syrup
While I prefer making my own syrup, sometimes I have to use store-bought and Monin is always my go-to. Keep in mind some syrups may have preservatives, colors, or artificial flavors.
