Why You'll Love This Espresso Mocktail
Easy and quick - You only need 4 ingredients and about 5 minutes to make this mocktail! If you're planning to use homemade syrup, I recommend making it ahead of time, it can last up to two weeks in the fridge!
Versatile - The syrup you use will determine the flavor of this drink. I love using chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, or spiced syrups like cinnamon, chai, or gingerbread spice! I have a whole category on homemade syrups you can check out!
Creamy and chocolatey - The secret ingredient here is heavy cream or a dairy-free creamer! It makes this mocktail smooth, creamy, and rich - almost like a dessert! I highly recommend adding a dusting of cacao powder on top, it makes it taste like a tiramisu!
Perfect for the holidays - If you're planning your holiday menu or any party and want to add a coffee mocktail, I highly recommend this one! Serve it in a pretty coupe glass with 3 coffee beans and it will look just like a cocktail from a fancy bar!
Ingredients
- Espresso - The better the espresso, the better the mocktail! You can use both regular and decaf espresso. Technically you can use cold-brew or regular brewed coffee as well but it's not as strong so you'll have to use more of it and it. Keep in mind regular coffee doesn't create the same foam.
- Creamer - You can use either creamer, cream, or any kind of milk to make the drink creamy. I like using French vanilla oat milk creamer. Plain heavy cream will make it extra creamy and smooth.
- Flavored syrup - You can use plain simple syrup here or add flavor. I like using Cinnamon Simple Syrup, Chocolate Simple Syrup, Chai Simple Syrup, or even Chestnut Praline Syrup for some Christmas flavor! See all my Homemade Syrups to pick your favorite.
- Cacao powder - This one is optional but I like dusting the mocktail with cacao or cocoa powder to give it a tiramisu flavor. This takes the drink from good to amazing!
Espresso Martini Variations
This is one of my favorite cocktails to make so I have many variations you can choose from if you want to add a cocktail version to your drink menu! You can also make a couple of these non-alcoholic.
- Rum Espresso Martini (Perfect for fall and winter, delicious with homemade syrups.)
- Tequila Espresso Martini (Unusual but so good!)
- Chai Espresso Martini (with homemade chai syrup that would be delicious in this mocktail as well.)
- Baileys Espresso Martini (The creamiest cocktail you'll ever have!)
- Chocolate Peppermint Espresso Martini (Perfect for Christmas!)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add the creamer, cinnamon simple syrup, and freshly brewed espresso to a cocktail shaker.
- Add a good handful of ice and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
- If you want the espresso martini extra foamy, strain the ice and dry shake vigorously again.
- Strain the mocktail into a coupe glass.
- Dust with cacao powder, and garnish with 3 coffee beans. Enjoy!
Expert Tips
- More foam - This mocktail doesn't have the same foam as a regular espresso martini but dry shaking it always helps if you want to go the extra step. I like to shake it with ice first to cool the espresso and then dry shake it at the end to create more foam. Even when there's no foam, the espresso beans float.
- Glassware - Serve the mocktail in a pretty coupe glass to make it extra pretty and fancy. I like these Ribbed Coupe Glasses but any coupe or martini glass will be great!
Serving and Storing
If you make your own syrup, you can store it in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. If you know you won't be able to use it all up within two weeks, you can freeze it in a freezer-safe container. I like freezing syrups in small plastic cups that fit 2-4 servings so I always know how much syrup I'm defrosting.
The mocktail is best enjoyed right away.
I like serving it dusted with cacao powder which gives it a little bit of a tiramisu flavor when mixed with the coffee. You can also add three coffee beans on top as garnish to make it look just like a classic espresso martini.
FAQs
There are many non-alcoholic zero-proof vodka drinks on the market if you want to go that route! You can either find them online like Amazon or at grocery stores, liqueur stores, or specialty cocktail stores. I haven't tried any because I always either use the actual alcohol or an easy substitute to keep the drinks budget-friendly.
I find a mocktail espresso martini never has the same foam as the cocktail version. I think it's something with the vodka and espresso combination that creates a beautiful foam. I've tried vegan foamer drops to help create foam but it changes the flavor quite noticeably. Try shaking the mocktail with ice first, then straining it, and then dry shaking it to create more foam.
