This Spiced Rum Apple Cider Cocktail is the perfect cocktail for fall. It packs all the fall flavors. Apples, warming spices, maple syrup, and citrus. It's incredibly easy to make, you don't even need a shaker!

The story behind this Apple Cider Cocktail:

I made a few different versions of this cocktail until I finally stumbled upon this version. Those different versions contained different types of alcohol as well as juices. I tried making a margarita, which is my go-to drink but it just doesn't go with apples for me. I'm also not a huge fan of bourbon's smoky flavor so rum was the best choice here. I decided to go for spiced rum because I wanted to add the subtle fall flavor without actually adding any ground spices. The first cocktail I tried was actually made with grape juice but then I had the idea to use apple cider instead and it worked perfectly! I love grape juice but only by itself. Apple cider on the other hand, though, works great in cocktails! Especially this Spiced Rum Apple Cider cocktail. It's sooo good, you guys.

I'm fairly new to making alcoholic cocktails. I've only posted three drinks on the blog so far. Two tweaked classics and a refreshing summer watermelon cocktail I created. They're all very summery so I'm excited to be sharing something more fall apropriate with you today.

It's been getting pretty cold here in Toronto lately so any cocktail with fall flavors is greatly welcomed. It wasn't actually till this year that I made it a point to try and develop more recipes using apple cider. They always sell it at the farmers market here and I just can't skip it any time I go. The amazing smell and taste of apple cider just screams fall to me. I have a few recipes that use it in the works so keep your eyes peeled! There are two breakfast dishes coming up and they're both my absolute favorite this fall. I'll be sharing the first one next Thursday and I'm so excited!

For now, I hope you enjoy this Spiced Rum Apple Cider Cocktail this weekend and have a spooky Halloween!

    • DietVegan

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 1 ½ oz spiced rum
    • 3 oz apple cider
    • 1 oz fresh lemon juice (approx. 1 lemon)
    • 1 tsp maple syrup (option, add more or less to taste)
    • A dash of orange bitters
    • Ice
    • Apple slices and cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)

    Instructions

    1. Add everything into a  cocktail shaker, add a few ice cubes. Shake vigorously for a few seconds and pour into a glass over ice. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can mix everything in the glass. Just stir it really well and add ice.
    2. Add a few apple slices and a cinnamon stick to the glass if desired and serve. Enjoy!

    Notes

If you don't have spiced rum, regular dark rum also works. You can add a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves for extra flavor.

Definitely! You can combine everything in a large mason jar, keep it in the fridge, and shake and pour it into a pitcher over ice right before serving so the drinks aren't too watered down. For 6 people it would be 9 oz spiced rum, 18 oz apple cider, 6 oz fresh lemon juice (4-6 lemons), 2 tbsp maple syrup, and a few dashes of orange bitters (scant 1 tsp).
