This Smoked Salmon Wrap is a fun twist on the classic lox bagel sandwich. It has all of the same flavors but instead of a bagel, it's a tortilla wrap! It requires no cooking and comes together in just 15 minutes. It makes a great make-ahead lunch or delicious light dinner. It can even be served for breakfast or brunch when you're craving something savory.

Why This Recipe Works
Just like a bagel with lox - If you like to make a smoked salmon bagel or often buy it out, this wrap is perfect for you! It has all the same flavors, just in a wrap form instead of on a bagel! I get a lox bagel sandwich at the farmer's market every weekend and I can guarantee you this wrap tastes just like it!
Easy to make - There's no cooking involved or any special ingredients needed to make this wrap. You just need to chop up a few veggies and toss everything on a tortilla wrap and it's done!
Light and healthy - This wrap makes a delicious light lunch or a great savory breakfast you can take with you on the go. You can even serve it with a salad or fries for dinner. The fresh veggies and smoked salmon make the perfect wrap combo for spring and summer when you're craving something more refreshing and light but still rich in protein. One wrap has about 17 grams of protein.
Ingredients
- Tortilla wraps - Use large tortilla wraps. I like whole wheat but gluten-free wraps or any other wraps also work. I use wraps that are about 10 inches in diameter.
- Cream cheese - Just like a smoked salmon bagel, this wrap has classic cream cheese. You can add flavored cream cheese or soft goat cheese as well.
- Smoked salmon - Use your favorite good-quality smoked salmon. Lox or smoked salmon are traditionally used in a salmon bagel. You can also use gravlax. Gravlax is salt-cured, not smoked so it's a little more raw without the smoky flavor. It's often flavored with things like fresh dill or gin. Lox is saltier and also more raw than smoked salmon.
- Lettuce - You can use any chopped lettuce here, but romaine has a nice crunch that goes well with everything else. Butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce also works great.
- Cucumber - You can use English cucumbers, small Persian cucumbers or garden cucumbers here. I dice them for these wraps but thin slices are also great!
- Tomatoes - Larger tomatoes (garden tomatoes, heirloom, roma) are ideal here because you can remove the seeds which could add too much water content to the wrap. Halved cherry tomatoes can also be used if you don't have regular garden tomatoes.
- Red onion - Thinly sliced red onion can't be missing in this wrap but if you want to remove some of its bite, soak the sliced onion in cold water for 10 minutes before adding it to the wrap, it will be less "spicy".
- Capers - A classic in any salmon bagel. Skip if you don't like them or add Quick Pickled Red Onions instead for a similar flavor.
- Fresh herbs - This is optional but I like to add fresh dill to this wrap. You could also add fresh chives or parsley. Dried dill also works, you'll just need a smaller amount.
- Spices - I just add a little bit of black pepper to these wraps but you can also add Everything Bagel Seasoning to mimic the bagel flavor even more.
Variations and Substitutions
Baby spinach - If you don't have romaine, you can use any other lettuce. Baby spinach makes a great substitution!
Hot smoked salmon - The recipe calls for cold smoked salmon which is used in a classic lox sandwich but you can also use hot smoked salmon if you prefer.
Wrap them as pinwheels - This wrap is best served as a burrito but it can be turned into small salmon roll-ups if you slice everything thinly. You will have to slice your cucumbers into thin rounds and skip the tomatoes. Spread everything on the entire tortilla and roll it up. Slice the wrap into small pinwheels using a sharp knife. You can secure the pinwheels with a tooth pick to prevent them from falling apart.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Lay your tortilla wrap on a large plate and spread half of the cream cheese in the middle.
- Top with half of all the toppings keeping everything in the middle - the chopped lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sliced red onion, smoked salmon, capers, fresh dill, and everything bagel seasoning if using.
- Wrap the tortilla by folding over one side and tucking it under the toppings, then folding over the top and bottom of the tortilla, and finally rolling it over to close it.
- Wrap it in parchment paper to make it easier to hold if desired and cut in half. Enjoy!
Serving and Storing
The wrap is best served right away as the veggies and cream cheese could make the wrap soggy as it sits. You can totally make it in the morning to have it later that day for lunch and dinner or make it the night ahead for breakfast or lunch but I don't recommend storing it longer than that.
Since the wrap has cold smoked salmon, I don't recommend toasting it or warming it up in any way because that would cook the salmon as well as all the raw veggies in it.
It's delicious served on its own or you can serve it with french fries or these Cajun Fries if you're craving something slightly spicy as a side.
FAQs
No, they're not freezer-friendly. I recommend only refrigerating your leftovers and eating them within 24 hours.
Salmon can either be cold-smoked or hot-smoked. A cold smoked salmon is smoked at under 90 degrees Fahrenheit so it's not technically cooked but it's ready to eat. Hot smoked salmon is smoked at over 120 degrees F, giving it a smokier flavor and a more "cooked" texture.

Notes
*To make the tortilla easier to wrap without breaking, you can warm it up in the oven at 150F (65C) for a few minutes. I like to brush it with a little bit of water to make sure it doesn’t dry out. You can also cover it with a wet clean kitchen towel.
Nutritional information is only a rough estimate. It will depend on the tortillas, cream cheese, and salmon you use.
