    Why This Recipe Works

A floral twist on the classic - Homemade rose syrup gives this margarita a floral twist and it works really well. Silver tequila and rose water go really well together and make for a refreshing spring or summer cocktail.

Easy to make - The syrup only calls for cane sugar, water, and rose water and the margarita can be made in a minute once you have the syrup ready. Margarita is one of the easiest cocktails you can make and this one is no different!

Pink and festive - Add some edible dried rose petals to the sugar for the glass rim or some dried hibiscus to the syrup to make it pink and extra festive if you're planning to make this cocktail for a Valentine's Day or a Mother's Day celebration!

    Ingredients

    • Tequila - Silver tequila works best with the floral rose flavor of the syrup but reposado will also be tasty if that's what you prefer or have.
    • Cointreau - This is a classic and can't be missing from any classic margarita. You can also use Triple Sec or any other orange liqueur.
    • Lime juice - Freshly squeezed lime juice is the best option here
    • Rose syrup - The syrup is made with cane sugar, water, and rose water. I recommend using cane sugar because it has no flavor and won't overpower the rose flavor. Always use food-grade rose water made for cooking. See the Rose Simple Syrup post for more tips and details.
Cane sugar, rose water, cane sugar, water, lime, tequila, and Cointreau all measured and laid out with text overlay.

    Variations and Substitutions

Make it pink - Simmer the syrup with one dried hibiscus flower to make it pink! If you don't have a whole flower, ½ teaspoon of dried hibiscus flower should be enough to color the syrup.

Sugar-free - You can make the syrup with a sugar substitute instead of cane sugar but keep in mind that some sugar substitutes have a specific flavor so the syrup might not taste the same.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    Rose Syrup

    1. Add cane sugar and water to a small saucepan. Bring the two to a boil stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
    2. Lower the heat and simmer the syrup for 10 minutes.
    3. Take the syrup off the heat and stir in rose water.
    4. Pour the syrup into a glass jar or a bottle and store it in the fridge for two weeks.

    Serving and Storing

The cocktail is best made right to serving. You can also double or triple the drink very easily. If you're making the cocktail for a crowd, you can mix it up in a pitcher and pour it into small glasses over ice. See the recipe card for exact measurements.

You can store any leftover syrup in an airtight jar in the fridge for two weeks. If you don't think you'll use up all of it in time, you can also freeze it. I like pouring it into an ice cube tray for easy use.

Don't know what to do with leftover syrup besides this margarita? Try it in gin cocktails, the floral rose flavor goes really well with gin. You can also add it to matcha lattes, or coffee, both black and lattes.
