Why You'll Love This Mango Cherry Smoothie
Simple summer flavor - I grew up with a cherry tree in our garden, so it was always my favorite fruit to snack on, but we usually just used them for baking. This smoothie keeps that fresh cherry flavor and turns it into a refreshing summer smoothie! Mango goes really well with it and gives it a tropical feel.
Superfood fueled - This is totally optional, but I added my favorite camu camu powder (for vitamin C) and pomegranate powder (mainly just for flavor) to make it even more nutritious. It's also really good with added chia seeds and ground flax seeds. Both provide extra fiber, healthy fats, and a little bit of protein.
Breakfast or a snack - Add your favorite protein powder to make it more filling for breakfast or serve it as a healthy snack! The smoothie also has no added sugar because the mango and cherries have enough natural sweetness.

Ingredients
- Cherries - I highly recommend using frozen cherries and all the other fruit frozen. The final texture is much smoother than when you use fresh fruit and ice. You can freeze your own in the summer and pit them either by hand or using a cherry pitter, or use store-bought ones year-round.
- Mango - Whenever possible, I freeze my own mango because the frozen store-bought ones are usually very bland and unripe. My go-to is always Ataulfo mango. It's sweeter, creamier, and it's less fibrous.
- Banana - Frozen banana creates a completely different texture than a raw banana. It makes the smoothie creamier, smoother, cooler, and more luscious.
- Pineapple - I like adding a few small pieces of frozen pineapple to add another element to the flavor. If you don't like pineapple, add more cherries or mango.
- Coconut water - Coconut water is high in electrolytes and so delicious with the tropical ingredients. My favorite brand is Harmless Harvest. Use an unpasteurized, refrigerated (or frozen) coconut water for the best flavor and the most nutrients when possible. Or if you have access to fresh young Thai coconuts, you can add the coconut meat as well!
- Protein powder - This is optional if you're serving it as a light snack, but for breakfast, I like to add a scoop of vegan unflavored protein powder to make it more filling.

Variations and Substitutions
- Pomegranate powder - I first learned this existed years ago when I bought a smoothie at Juice Press in New York and later made my own Tropical Pomegranate Coconut Smoothie, which ended up being one of my first recipes on this site! I find the powder to be much easier to use than the juice in smoothies because the juices usually come in large bottles I can never finish. It gives it a little tangy and sweet flavor that goes really well with everything else.
- Camu camu powder - Camu camu berries are native to the Amazon rainforest. They're tangy, rich in antioxidants, and have a whopping 3 grams of vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit, which makes them a superfood. I usually add this powder to any green, berry, or tropical smoothie to boost the vitamin C content, but it's totally optional.
- No coconut water - You can swap the coconut water for some plain cold still water or almond milk if you prefer. Alternatively, a mix of water and freshly squeezed orange juice would also be delicious! You can also add a dollop of yogurt.
- Chia and ground flax - I add this to most of my smoothies for more fiber, healthy fats, and protein. Chia seeds should only be consumed soaked, so they're great in a smoothie!
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add coconut water, protein powder, pomegranate powder, camu camu powder (if using), frozen banana, frozen cherries, frozen mango, and frozen pineapple to a high-speed blender.
- Blend on high until smooth. You may need to use your blender's tamper to help the ingredients blend without creating air pockets.

Tips & Tricks!
- Add your liquids and any powders first - Adding the liquid first prevents the powders from sticking to the blades in dry clumps, and adding both before the frozen fruit prevents the powders from flying up and sticking to the sides and lid.
- Make sure there are no cherry pits - It's always easy to accidentally forget a pit in a cherry, especially when you freeze a whole bunch at once or when you use store-bought frozen ones. It's definitely happened to me once or twice before and it's always sad to toss it because of it.
Serving and Storing
I like serving this smoothie simply in a glass with a straw. If you prefer smoothie bowls, you'll have to adjust the ingredients to make a thicker smoothie. Otherwise, it will be very thin, and your toppings will sink.
Smoothie bowl: To make it thicker, add only ½ cup of coconut water and 1 frozen banana instead of just a half (or add more mango and frozen cherries). Use your blender's tamper to help it blend.
Toppings you can add: Fresh berries, fresh mango or cherries, almond butter, yogurt, thick coconut kefir, granola, cacao nibs, nuts, seeds, or my magic shell chocolate sauce.
Storing: Just like any other smoothie, this one is best enjoyed right away. If needed, you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 day.

FAQs
Yes! You can add 2 tablespoon of juice instead of the powder. The smoothie is also delicious without it! The reason I prefer the powder is that I can add it to things like this without having to worry about using up the whole bottle of juice before it goes bad.

The smoothie is best enjoyed right away, but if needed, you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 day.
If you add any powdered ingredients, I recommend adding them after the liquids and before the frozen fruit. This prevents them from flying up and sticking to the walls of the blender when you start blending.
