    Why This Recipe Works

Easy and simple - All you need are a few simple ingredients for this smoothie and it comes together in minutes! Frozen fruits, yogurt, milk, and a touch of vanilla. Both frozen pineapple and frozen mango should be easy to find in the frozen aisle at your local grocery store. Depending on where you live, using frozen fruit is often more budget-friendly than fresh fruit, especially when it's not in season.

Tropical flavors - Pineapple and mango make this the perfect tropical smoothie to enjoy on a hot summer day as a quick breakfast or an afternoon snack for a boost of energy.

McDonald's Copycat Recipe - I have to be honest, I've never actually had the McDonald's mango pineapple smoothie but I've done some research and it's super easy to recreate at home. Making it at home means you're using fresh ingredients and real fruit without added sugar. McDonald's uses mango and pineapple fruit base as well as something called "smoothie yogurt" which I'm sure are both loaded with sugar and additives. I can guarantee you the homemade version will taste so much better!

Breakfast or a snack - The recipe can be served as a breakfast or a light snack for two people. You can add more liquid for a thinner consistency and serve it as a refreshing drink on a hot day.

    Ingredients

    • Mango - Frozen mango is recommended here because it cools the smoothie down without any ice and it's a more budget-friendly option than fresh mango. If you have a lot of good fresh mangos when they're in season, I highly recommend freezing them for future smoothies!
    • Pineapple - Frozen pineapple is always great to have on hand for smoothies, it goes great with any berries or tropical fruits like mango and banana.
    • Banana - Frozen banana is what makes this smoothie extra creamy and helps to keep it cool.
    • Yogurt - Any yogurt works but my favorite is a really good creamy vegan coconut yogurt. You can also use plain Greek yogurt if you don't mind the dairy. This is what gives the smoothie that extra creamy texture.
    • Milk - You can use any milk you like using in your smoothies. Whole milk or any non-dairy milk. I recommend almond milk or coconut milk from a carton.
    • Flavorings - Vanilla extract and cinnamon add a touch of flavor and balance out the sweetness and flavors of the fruit. These are optional but highly recommended.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Protein powder - Plain or vanilla protein powder is great in this smoothie. Add your favorite one for a boost of protein if you're having it for breakfast..
    • Passion fruit - Passion fruit pulp or frozen passion fruit puree would be a great flavor addition to this tropical smoothie!
    • Coconut water - You can substitute the almond milk in the recipe for coconut water to add some natural electrolytes to the smoothie and make it even lighter and more tropical.
    • Orange juice - You can do a mix of orange juice and coconut water or almond milk if you want more flavor. Freshly squeezed orange juice is preffered.
    • Greens - This will obviously change the color of the smoothie but you can add your favorite fresh greens like spinach or kale or any greens powder of your choice. My go-to is the Tonic Alchemy by Dragon Herbs.
    • Flax seeds - Ground flax seeds are a great addition to any smoothies. I recommend adding 1-3 teaspoon so that it doesn't change the flavor of the smoothie but you still get the benefits. Flax seeds are rich in nutrients, omega-3s, and fiber.
    • Chia seeds and hemp seeds - Chia and hemp seeds are both a great addition to any smoothie and they're rich in omega-3s and protein just like flax seeds.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend on high until smooth.
    2. I recommend adding liquids first to help everything blend better. Add more or less liquid depending on your desired consistency.

    1. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy! You can also divide this smoothie into two servings if you're serving it as a light snack.

    Serving Suggestions

You can serve the smoothie as is in a glass or you can serve it in a bowl with your favorite toppings.

If you're serving it as a smoothie bowl, you might want to add only about ½ the almond milk to keep the smoothie thicker so that your toppings don't sink to the bottom. You can also add an extra frozen banana to turn this smoothie into more of a banana ice cream consistency.

    Storing

This smoothie, just like any other smoothie, is best consumed right away. If you need to store it, keep it in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours. The less empty space or air there is in the jar, the longer the smoothie will last because it won't oxidize as quickly.

    FAQs

What's some other fruit I can use?

If you don't have enough pineapple and mango, you could use frozen berries like strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries. Frozen passion fruit puree or dragon fruit would also be delicious!

    Can I freeze the smoothie?

Since the recipe calls for frozen fruit, I don't recommend refreezing it. If you use fresh fruit, you can freeze the smoothie in an ice cube tray and blend it with milk or coconut water for a quick snack.
