Why You'll Love These Roasted Frozen Green Beans
The easiest side dish - Just empty a bag of frozen green beans on a baking sheet, add oil and seasonings, and roast in the oven for 25 minutes! I also add sliced almonds halfway through roasting for added crunch. You only need about 5 minutes of hands-on time and the ingredients are easy to find in most grocery stores.
Versatile base - Think of this recipe as your base recipe for cooking frozen green beans. You can add different spices like Italian seasoning, Greek seasoning, Cajun spice mix, and more! The recipe is amazing as it is but the flavor options here are endless!
Great with any dish - Serve these green beans as a side to practically any dish! They're delicious with chicken, turkey, steak, fish, tofu, or added to salads and bowls. They're so good you can even serve them as a side for Thanksgiving or Christmas!
Ingredients
- Frozen green beans - I used a 1-pound bag of frozen green beans for this recipe. You can half the recipe or double it as needed.
- Avocado oil - Any cooking oil works here. I used pure 100% avocado oil. I don't recommend using extra virgin olive oil here because it has a low smoke point.
- Spices - The seasoning is super simple. All you need is sea salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion, powder, and some dried oregano.
- Sliced almonds - This is optional but I add raw sliced almonds to the baking sheet halfway through baking. They toast in the oven and add a nice crunch to the finished dish.
Variations and Substitutions
- Different spices - The options are endless here. I kept it simple with this base recipe but you can add any spices you like! Try them with some Greek Seasoning, Italian seasoning, or Cajun spice seasoning!
- Parmesan - You can add a sprinkle of parmesan to the beans halfway through cooking when you add the sliced almonds for a cheesy flavor.
- Fresh green beans - You can cook fresh green beans in the same way as you would frozen beans here.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425F (220C).
- Empty your bag of frozen green beans on a large baking sheet (see notes).
- Drizzle with avocado oil and toss to coat.
- Season with dried oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss again to coat evenly.
- Roast in the oven for 15 minutes.
- Take the green beans out of the oven, add sliced almonds, and toss gently.
- Lower the heat to 400F (200C) and return the pan back into the oven.
- Roast for another 10 minutes.
- Add a squeeze of lemon before serving or serve with lemon wedges. Enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Give your frozen beans enough space to breathe. If you overcrowd your pan too much, the beans will steam instead of roast and won't be as crispy. If your oven is smaller, cook the green beans in two batches (like I do).
- Make sure your green beans have the ends removed. They become very tough to eat after you roast them and aren't pleasant to eat.
Serving Suggestions
- Any meat - You can pair these green beans with roasted or grilled chicken, turkey, beef, pork, or steaks.
- Fish and seafood - Try it with roasted or grilled salmon or shrimp!
- Tofu - Crispy tofu, grilled, or roasted tofu are all delicious with green beans.
- Salads and bowls - Add these to your salads or rice or quinoa bowls for extra flavor. They're delicious with other roasted veggies as well.
- Other sides - These beans are perfect for your holiday table with other sides like these Rosemary Mashed Potatoes, Balsamic Roasted Carrots, or these Cajun Fries with House Sauce.
Storing
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. The green beans will lose their crispiness as they sit in the fridge. You can reheat them on a pan with a little bit of avocado oil or in a preheated oven at 400F to crisp them up a little bit again. I don't recommend freezing the cooked beans.
FAQs
Don't overcrowd your pan. Make sure the green beans have enough space to roast. If they overlap and stack too much, they will steam instead of roast. I have a small oven so I make this recipe in two batches by dividing everything in half. If you have a regular big oven and a large baking sheet this recipe is fine to make in one pan.
No! Just add your frozen green beans to a baking sheet with oil and seasoning and roast them in a preheated oven from frozen. They're thin and small so they will defrost in the hot oven very quickly.

Notes
Smaller baking sheet and oven: If your oven is smaller and your baking sheet is only around 14x10-inch, I recommend making the green beans in 2 batches to get them crispy. You can totally cook them all at once to save time but when they overlap too much, they will steam rather than roast.
Storing: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 300F or in a pan on the stove with a splash of water.
