This Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce is the only cranberry sauce you need this holiday season. It's sweetened only with orange juice and a little maple syrup so it's much healthier than regular cranberry sauce. It's tart, a little sweet, and zesty. Great with both sweet and savory dishes!

Okay, so here's the thing with me and Thanksgiving. I'm from the Czech Republic and we don't celebrate Thanksgiving so I'm not used to making any special dishes for this holiday which includes cranberry sauce because we actually don't even have cranberries! That being said, most of you are from the states so I pay attention to the US holidays and create recipes based on what you guys are searching for. What complicates it, mainly on Thanksgiving, is that I live in Canada now. And as you know, Canadian Thanksgiving is a month earlier than the American one. I never learned why that is, it still confuses me. So I get confused about whether to post Thanksgiving recipes in October or November but this year I decided to go with November. Besides, cranberry sauce is great for Christmas too!

This Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce is actually the first cranberry sauce I've ever made! I didn't want to add tons of sugar like most recipes suggest so I just added some maple syrup and the result was delicious! Tart, zesty, with a touch of sweetness from the maple syrup and orange juice.

    How to make cranberry sauce:

Making this Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce couldn't be easier. All you need to do is get a medium pot, add the cranberries, orange zest, orange juice, and the maple syrup, a splash of water, and stir to combine. Cover with a lid and bring to a soft boil. Simmer the cranberries for about 20 minutes or until they all pop and the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Stir the cranberries once in a while to make sure nothing sticks to the bottom.

Transfer the sauce to a glass jar and wait until it's completely cooled down before closing the jar and placing it in the fridge. The sauce lasts up to one week in the fridge.

    Description

Delicious, easy, and healthy cranberry sauce that comes together in about 20 minutes!

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 4 cups cranberries
    • the zest of ½-1 orange
    • the juice of 1 orange
    • 2 tbsp maple syrup (add more or less to taste)

    Instructions

    1. Add the cranberries to a pot with a splash of water, the orange zest, orange juice, and maple syrup, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 10 minutes or until all the cranberries pop.
    2. Stir occasionally to make sure it’s not sticking to the bottom. Cook till you reach your desired consistency. I like to make my cranberry sauce really saucy so I cook it for about 20 mins total.
    3. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for about 5 days.

    Notes

If you don't have maple syrup you can use any other sweetener you like. Honey, yacon syrup, coconut sugar, date sugar, brown sugar, etc.

I love cranberries. And I think, I will like this sauce because as you said that this sauce is just little sweet. I don't like too much sweet. I will definitely will make this sauce at home. Thanks for this recipe.

This is one of my favorites for Thanksgiving. I usually buy it from Whole Foods but it's not a bad idea to make it.
