    Why This Recipe Works

Homemade syrup - Once you start making your own syrups at home, you won't want to go back to store-bought! You only need 3 ingredients and less than 30 minutes to make this blackberry syrup. Simple syrup is made with sugar and water in a 1:1 ratio with flavorings. Check out the Flavored Syrups category to see more variations!

Simple, easy, and versatile - Once you make the syrup, the latte itself takes less than 5 minutes to make! Try syrup is easy to make and can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. If you don't have blackberries, you can make it with any other berries you have on hand!

Better than coffee - Matcha is a green tea powder that's generally said to be healthier than coffee. It has less caffeine but it's believed to be a more stable source of energy that lasts longer without the side effects coffee has. It's also filled with antioxidants and phytonutrients.

    Ingredients

    • Blackberries - Both fresh and frozen blackberries work in this recipe.
    • Cane sugar - Any sugar that can be used instead of regular sugar in a 1:1 ratio works for making the syrup. I recommend using cane sugar because it has a very neutral flavor that won't overpower the flavor of the syrup and it's less processed than white sugar.
    • Matcha powder - The better quality matcha you use, the better your latte will taste. I recommend using ceremonial-grade matcha because I find it to be sweeter and less bitter but any matcha powder works.
    • Almond milk - I like using almond milk to keep this latte dairy-free but you can use any milk you would normally use in your lattes. Oat milk or coconut milk from a carton are also great options.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    Blackberry Syrup

    1. Add blackberries, cane sugar, and water to a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Stir often, in the beginning, to make sure the sugar melts properly.
    2. Lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
    3. Take the syrup off the heat, stir in vanilla, and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
    4. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a large measuring cup or a bowl.
    5. Pour it into a glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Wait until the syrup is completely cool before closing the jar.

    Serving and Storing

The finished latte is best served right away but you can store the syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. It's great for lots of other drinks besides this matcha. Try it in this Blackberry Margarita, in mocktails, in iced tea, or in lemonades!

    FAQs

    Can I use frozen blackberries?

Yes! The syrup is the best with fresh blackberries while they're in season but you can definitely make it with frozen blackberries any time of the year!

Can I make it without making the syrup?

If you don't have time to make the syrup, you can add fresh blackberries and cane sugar into your glass and muddle them together using a cocktail muddler before adding everything else. The flavor won't be as strong and there will be blackberry seeds but it's an easy way to make this drink without making the syrup first!

    Description

This Iced Blackberry Matcha Latte is made with homemade syrup, it's so creamy and light, and the perfect morning drink to start your day with!

    Notes

Store syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

You can keep the strained blackberries to use as jam but I usually toss them because the seeds aren’t too pleasant to eat.

I loved the earthiness of the matcha paired with the creaminess and brightness of the blackberry. This is a go-to for me whenever I need a unique drink to get through the midday slump.

Such a unique and refreshing beverage. I love matcha latte's on their own but I tried it with the blackberries and was blown away by how well they went together. Gotta make another glass again!

I came across t his recipe as I was drinking my very plain (still delicious) vanilla matcha latte. I have never thought to add berries, but this is brilliant! Can't wait to try it!
