Why You'll Love This Mango Mocktail
A tropical drink everyone will love - All of the flavor in this mocktail comes from just 3 ingredients. Fresh mango, mint leaves, and lime juice make such a refreshing and delicious combination, you'll want to make a whole pitcher of this drink! It's the perfect non-alcoholic drink for a summer afternoon or any party! Great for kids and adults alike!
Homemade syrup - While you can totally use a good quality store-bought syrup for this mocktail, I highly recommend making your own Mango Simple Syrup for the best flavor! All you need is water, diced mango, and cane sugar. The syrup keeps well in the fridge or freezer, and you can use it for countless other beverages!
Easy and simple - If you make the syrup ahead of time, the drink only takes a couple of minutes to put together! Making your own simple syrup might sound like a lot of work, but I promise you it's really easy and so worth it! You only need 5 ingredients total for the syrup and the drink, and they can be found at any grocery store.
Ingredients
- Mango - You can use fresh or frozen mango to make the Mango Simple Syrup. I like to use fresh ripe mango because it tends to be more flavorful than frozen mango. I also add diced fresh mango to the mocktail as garnish, but that's optional.
- Cane sugar - I like using cane sugar for most of my simple syrups because it's very neutral in flavor, but less processed than white sugar.
- Water - You'll need water for making the syrup in a 1:1 ratio with the sugar. Use filtered water for the best flavor.
- Lime juice - Use freshly squeezed lime juice whenever possible. It will always give you a better flavor than store-bought bottled juice.
- Mint - Fresh mint goes so well with mango and lime here and makes the mocktail feel fancy without any special ingredients.
- Sparkling water - You'll need sparkling water, club soda, seltzer, or unsweetened flavored soda water. Alternatively, you could also use ginger beer to add a kick or coconut water for a different flavor and no bubbles!
Variations and Substitutions
- Mango puree or juice - If you don't want to make syrup, you can use pure mango juice, or make your own puree. Blend fresh mango in a blender or a food processor with 2-3 tablespoon cane sugar or other sweetener like maple syrup, and a splash of water. Strain the puree through a fine mesh strainer to make it smoother.
- Lemon juice - I highly recommend using lime juice for this drink because it works so well with the mint, and it gives the drink a mojito-like flavor. But you can use lemon juice in a pinch if you don't have limes.
- Orange juice - Add a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice to the drink for another layer of flavor. I don't recommend store-bought orange juice here.
Step-by-Step Instructions
If you're making your own mango syrup, I recommend doing it ahead of time so that you can have it ready and cool for your mocktails. It lasts 2 weeks in the fridge so it's easy to prep ahead.
Mango Syrup
- Add cane sugar, water, and diced mango to a small pot.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer while stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
- Lower the heat and simmer the mixture for 10 minutes.
- Take it off the heat and cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer, pressing down on the mango with a spoon to get as much juice out of it as possible.
- Store the syrup in a jar in the fridge for up to 14 days.

Mango Mocktail
- Pour mango syrup and lime juice into your cocktail shaker and add fresh mint leaves.
- Use a muddler to muddle the mixture to release flavor from the mint leaves.
- Add a handful of ice cubes and shake the mocktail vigorously for a few seconds until very cool to the touch.
- Strain the drink into a short glass over ice and top up with sparkling water.
- Garnish the drink with diced mango, a slice of lime, and a fresh mint sprig if desired. Enjoy!
Tips & Tricks!
- Make the syrup the day before - It keeps really well in the fridge, and making it ahead of time simplifies the process.
- Serve it with a variety of syrups - You can make a couple of different syrups if you're serving the mocktail for a group of people, so that everyone can pick their favorite! See Simple Syrups to see all of my syrup recipes.
- Add a sugar rim - Just like some cocktails have a salt rim, this mocktail would be delicious with a sugar rim made with either cane sugar or coarse turbinado sugar. You can even stir some lime zest into the sugar for more flavor!
Make-Ahead Options and Storing
While the finished mocktail is best served right away, there are a few components of the drink you can prep ahead to make putting it all together a breeze.
- Syrup: The mango syrup can be stored in an airtight jar or a container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for 3-4 months. When freezing, I like to store it pre-measured in small containers. Due to the high-sugar content, the syrup never freezes solid, so you can scoop it straight from the freezer and it takes about 30 minutes to defrost completely.
- Lime juice: If making more than one serving, I highly recommend juicing your limes ahead of time. You can store the juice in an airtight jar in the fridge for 1-2 days. I lightly recommend an electric juicer for this to make it easier.
- Garnish: If you plan to add diced mango and sliced limes to your mocktails, you can prep those up to a few hours ahead. The mango would last longer, but limes tend to turn yellow around the edges when they're sliced for too long.
- Fresh mint: You can also wash your mint ahead of time, but it's best to store it in the fridge in a glass with water like a flower and wrapped in a produce bag to keep it as fresh as possible.
FAQs
My go-to for store-bought syrups is always Monin, but I also like Prosyro which is a small local Canadian brand.
