This Blueberry Mojito is a refreshing blueberry twist on the classic summer cocktail. It's easy to make, simple, and the blueberries give the drink its beautiful bright purple color. You can easily turn it into a mocktail as well!

Why You'll Love This Mojito
A fun new flavor - We all know and love the Classic Mojito but it's always fun to try different flavors of popular cocktails (you can see my evergrowing collection of margaritas in the Cocktails category) and mojitos are no different! The combination of limes and blueberries is so delicious and it works really well with rum. I also have a Blueberry Margarita in case you're a fan of tequila too!
Summer favorite - These mojitos are perfect for summer parties, BBQs, or any hot summer day. Lots of ice and added sparkling water make this the perfect cocktail to sip by the pool during a heatwave!
Simple easy - Mojitos are one of my favorite cocktails because you don't need a cocktail shaker to make them! There's almost no room for error and the drink comes together in just a couple of minutes. All you need is a tall glass, your ingredients, and a muddler or wooden spoon to muddle everything together!
Ingredients
- White rum - Use any white rum you like in your mojitos. I always have either Bacardi or Planterey rum on hand for cocktails.
- Fresh blueberries - You can use either fresh or frozen blueberries. I like using a mix of both when I have them because I like the flavor of fresh blueberries but frozen ones give the drink a much deeper purple color.
- Chopped fresh lime - You will need a whole lime chopped into small slices. Choose an organic lime whenever possible to avoid added wax or pesticides on the peel.
- Fresh mint - Just like a classic mojito, this one needs a small handful of fresh mint. Dried mint won't unfortunately work.
- Cane sugar - I like using cane sugar because it has a neutral flavor but it's less processed than pure white sugar. Granulated sugar is great here because it helps to release the juices from the lime and the oils from its peel and from the fresh mint when you muddle everything together.
- Sparkling water - You can top up the mojito with either plain sparkling water, club soda, or unsweetened soda water. I most often just use sparkling water.
- Ice - While regular restaurant-style mojito has crushed ice, most of us don't have that at home so I just use regular ice. If you have an ice cube tray for mini ice cubes, this would be a great cocktail to use them in!
Variations and Substitutions
- Other berries - If you don't have blueberries, you can use other berries like raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries and just keep the rest of the ingredients the same. I also have a separate post for a Strawberry Basil Mojito you can try!
- Lime juice - If you don't want the chopped lime in the drink, you can also just use fresh lime juice instead.
- A different spirit - If you don't like or don't have white rum, you can try it with tequila, vodka, or gin! It won't be a mojito anymore but it will be just as delicious!
- Different sweeteners - If you don't have cane sugar, you can use white sugar, light brown sugar, or liquid sweeteners like simple syrup (try this Blueberry Simple Syrup), agave, maple syrup, or coconut nectar but it might change the flavor slightly. Any sugar-free substitutes you like using also work.
- A non-alcoholic version - You can make a mocktail version of this drink by either using a non-alcoholic spirit that mimics the flavor of rum or you can leave it out altogether and add more sparkling water instead. I like to use flavored unsweetened soda to give it a little more flavor like LaCroix or anything similar.

FAQs
Mojito is a cocktail that's best made as a single serving. It's hard to make in a pitcher because you need to muddle the ingredients and add sparkling water that might fizzle out if it sits in a pitcher for too long. It's also important to note that if you let fresh mint sit in lime juice for too long, it will get wilted and might turn brown.
This recipe has 2 oz of white rum which is how much is added to most mojito recipes out there, though some might have a little less or a little more.
Yes! The easiest way to do it is to just leave out the rum and add a little more sparkling water and blueberries. You can also use flavored soda instead and make it more fun with homemade syrup like this Blueberry Syrup!
You want to use only white rum here. Mojitos are always light in color, their only color is green from the addition of fresh mint and lime, though in this case, there are blueberries as well which make it purple. White rum gives it a refreshing tropical flavor. Bacardi rum is a classic but I also like Planterey.
