Why You'll Love This Mango Margarita

True mango flavor - The cocktail is made with a homemade syrup made with real mango for a delicious tropical flavor that's perfect for the summer! It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and such a good flavor combination! This might actually be my all-time favorite, along with my Passion Fruit Margarita!

Easy to make - While I recommend my homemade mango syrup, you can always use a store-bought one as well to save time. Whichever you choose, this margarita is one of the easiest cocktails! You only really need 4 ingredients and some ice.

Bright orange mango margarita with ice in two short glasses with tajin rims, garnished with a slices of lime and mango, and with a gold straws with more limes, mangoes, and tajin around.

    Ingredients

    • Tequila - I recommend reposado tequila for this margarita, but blanco is also a great option. I would stay away from anejo tequila here unless you really like the rich, woody, caramel flavor. It could overpower the mango flavor.
    • Orange liqueur - Cointreau is my go-to, but Triple Sec is also a great option and usually more budget-friendly. When added to a margarita, there's very little difference between the two.
    • Mango simple syrup - You can either use homemade Mango Simple Syrup or a store-bought, like Monin or Torani. My favorite local brand is Prosyro.
    • Lime juice - I highly recommend using freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor whenever possible. In my opinion, it's even more important than homemade syrup!
    • Bitters - This is optional, but I like adding a dash or two of orange or mango bitters. You can also change up the flavor this way and add chili or jalapeno bitters or any tropical bitter like pineapple, passion fruit, or coconut.
    • Tajin rim - You can either stick with the classic salt rim or make it more fun and flavorful with a Tajin rim! To get it to stick, you can either run a lime wedge around the rim first or brush it with agave syrup. I like the agave method because I find the garnish sticks much better to it.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Fresh mango puree - I opted for a syrup here because I really like the flavor without adding any texture, but if you prefer, you can always blend some fresh mango into a puree using an immersion blender or a high-speed blender and add that to the cocktail shaker. I recommend Ataulfo mango, as frozen mango isn't usually of great quality and often not very ripe.
    • Pitcher version - You can easily make this in a pitcher by just stirring everything together with a long spoon and serving over ice! Measurements for 6 servings: 9 oz tequila, 3 oz orange liqueur, 6 oz lime juice, 6 oz mango syrup, 6 dashes mango or orange bitters.
    • Mocktail version - The easiest way to turn this into a mocktail is to replace the tequila and orange liqueur with non-alcoholic substitutes. Alternatively, I highly recommend trying my Mango Mocktail!

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. To create a Tajin rim on your glass, brush the rim with agave syrup and dip it in Tajin on a small plate. You can do this on just one side or do a classic thin rim all around.
    2. Fill the glass with ice and set it aside.
    3. Into a cocktail shaker, add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, mango simple syrup, and bitters if using.

    1. Add about 1 cup of ice cubes and shake the cocktail vigorously for a few seconds until very cool to the touch.

    1. Strain the margarita into your prepared glass.
    2. Garnish with slices of fresh mango and lime if desired. Enjoy!

    Tips & Tricks!

    • Fill up your glass with ice first - Avoid watering down your margarita by filling your serving glass with ice first and then making the cocktail. Also, remember to add ice to your shaker last. This way, nothing gets too watered down!
    • Margarita glass - If you want to serve it in the classic margarita glass without ice, I strongly recommend either letting the glass sit filled with ice until you're ready to serve the drink or chilling it in the freezer. If you don't do this, your drink may not stay as cold.

    Make-Ahead Options

If you're making more than one serving and want to prep it ahead, you can make the margarita in a big pitcher or a large mason jar and store that in the fridge for a few hours. If you need to store it overnight or longer, I recommend storing all ingredients separately.

For a pitcher, you can measure your tequila and orange liqueur and store them in mason jars in the fridge along with freshly squeezed lime juice. The lime juice will last you for 2 days in an airtight container in the fridge.

If you want to make your own syrup, I recommend my Mango Syrup. It will keep for 14 days in the fridge or a few months in the freezer!

    FAQs

Can I make this as a mocktail?

You can either use zero-proof tequila and orange liqueur if you want the most similar flavor, just without the alcohol, or I highly recommend trying my Mango Mocktail!

Can I make this with a different spirit?

You could try it with vodka or white rum if you prefer. I also have a recipe for a Mango Mai Tai with white and dark rum that you might enjoy!

    Description

This Mango Margarita is sweet, tropical, and perfect for the summer! It's made with delicious homemade mango syrup, and the recipe includes a pitcher version for a crowd! It has just 4 ingredients, it's simple, and so flavorful!

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • ½ tsp agave syrup
    • 1 tbsp Tajin
    • 1 ½ oz reposado or silver tequila
    • ½ oz orange liqueur (I use Cointreau)
    • 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
    • 1 oz Mango Simple Syrup
    • 1 dash orange or mango bitters (optional)
    • 2 cups ice (approx., divided)
    • Garnish: slices of fresh mango, lime slice

    Instructions

    1. To create a Tajin rim on your glass, brush the rim with agave syrup and dip it in Tajin on a small plate. You can do this on just one side or do a classic thin rim all around. Fill the glass with ice and set it aside.
    2. Into a cocktail shaker, add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, mango simple syrup, and bitters if using.
    3. Add about 1 cup of ice cubes and shake the cocktail vigorously for a few seconds.
    4. Strain the margarita into your prepared glass and garnish with slices of fresh mango and lime if desired. Enjoy!

    Notes

Tajin rim: I like using agave because I find the Tajin sticks to it better, and it’s a nice combination of sweet and salty. If you don’t have it, you can use honey instead, or keep it classic and rub a lime wedge around the glass.

Pitcher for 6: 9 oz tequila, 3 oz orange liqueur, 6 oz lime juice, 6 oz mango syrup, 6 dashes mango or orange bitters. Stir everything together in a large pitcher and add ice. Alternatively, you can cool the mixture in the fridge for an hour in the fridge first and then serve it over ice.
