Why You'll Love This Blueberry Mocktail

Everyone can enjoy it - The drink is made with blueberry There is no alcohol or weird ingredients kids might not like in this mocktail so the whole family can enjoy it! It's great for family BBQs or fancier parties like birthdays, holidays, or anything else!

Fancy but simple and easy - This isn't your usual boring or overly sweet mocktail! It's made with homemade blueberry syrup and mint syrup, freshly squeezed lime juice, and sparkling water. It's really simple but it's fancy enough to

    Ingredients

    • Blueberry syrup - You can make your own or use store-bought. To make homemade blueberry simple syrup, you'll need water, cane sugar, and blueberries (fresh or frozen).
    • Mint syrup - Making your own mint simple syrup is super easy. All you need is water, cane sugar, and fresh mint. I like using Moroccan mint because it has a stronger flavor than other mint varieties. I have a separate post for Mint Simple Syrup that goes into more detail if you want to use homemade.
    • Lime juice - Freshly squeezed lime juice is ideal, but you can use bottled lime juice in a pinch.
    • Sparkling water - You can use either sparkling water or your favorite soda to top up the drink. I like using either unflavored sparkling water or un
    • Ice - A handful of ice cubes to cool your drink down.
Measured ingredients like blueberry syrup, mint syrup, blueberries, and sparkling water laid out on a grey background.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Different fruit syrup - If you don't have blueberries or blueberry syrup, you can use Raspberry Simple Syrup, Strawberry Simple Syrup, or Blackberry Simple Syrup. Even other syrups like rose, hibiscus, peach, or pomegranate would work great. See Flavored Syrups for more fun options.
    • Different herbs - Mint is a classic and so good with any berry syrup. If you want to change things up and use something different, you can try Rosemary Simple Syrup or Thyme Simple Syrup. Even Sage Simple Syrup might be a fun option!
    • No sugar - You can use sugar-free syrups or make your own by using a sugar-free alternative that can be used in a 1:1 ratio with regular sugar. I haven't tried it so I can't guarantee results. Keep in mind that using a different sweetener will change the flavor of the syrup.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

If you're making your own syrups, I recommend doing this ahead of time so that you can whip up these mocktails in just a couple of minutes! Both the syrups last about 2 weeks in the fridge and are freezer-friendly, so you can prep a big batch ahead of time!

    Blueberry Simple Syrup

    1. Add water, cane sugar, and blueberries to a medium saucepan and bring it to a simmer, stirring often.
    2. Simmer for 15 minutes.
    3. Take the syrup off the heat and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
    4. Strain through a fine mesh strainer and store in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

For more detailed instructions and special tips, see Blueberry Simple Syrup!

    Mint Simple Syrup

    1. Add water, cane sugar, and fresh mint to a medium saucepan and bring the mixture to a simmer stirring often to prevent the sugar from sticking to the bottom.
    2. Simmer the syrup for 5 minutes.
    3. Take the syrup off the heat and allow the mint to steep for 10 minutes while the syrup cools.
Remove the mint and store the syrup in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

    2. Serve with a straw and stir before enjoying.

    Serving and Storing

The finished mocktail is best made right before serving so the ice doesn't melt and water down the drink. If you're making your own blueberry syrup and mint syrup, they can be stored in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to two weeks. I highly recommend making them ahead of time. They'll be nice and cool from the fridge and your drink will be ready in just a few minutes!

    FAQs

    What's a good store-bought syrup?

I like Monin, but Torani is also a popular brand. Try this Monin Blueberry Syrup.

Can I make it in a pitcher?

Yes, for a pitcher, I like to add ¼ cup of both blueberry and mint syrups, ¼ cup of lime juice, lots of ice, and top up with sparkling water.
