    Why This Recipe Works

Versatile - Add it to anything and everything! Think roasted veggies, meat, chicken, fish, tofu, rice bowls, grains, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, or eggs!

Easy to make - Anyone can make spicy mayo, it's totally fool proof! All you have to do is whisk everything in a jar and you're done! You can store the mayo in a squeeze bottle in the fridge for easy access.

    Ingredients

    • Mayonnaise - You can use regular or vegan mayo. I like using regular mayo made with 100% avocado oil as a healthier alternative. Kewpie mayo is also a great option. I usually stay away from it and use mayo with cleaner ingredients.
    • Sriracha - You can use any hot sauce you prefer here but I highly recommend sriracha! Add as much or as little as you like.
    • Rice vinegar - A little bit of rice vinegar adds tang and balances out the spiciness of the sriracha. If you're using kewpie mayo you can add less or skip the rice vinegar as it's already flavored compared to plain mayo.
    • Toasted sesame oil - A little sesame flavor adds depth. Make sure you're using toasted sesame oil, not raw. They don't have the same flavor.
    • Cane sugar - A little sweetener balances all the flavors. You can also use agave or maple syrup.
    • Garlic - Grated garlic gives the sauce more flavor but garlic powder can also be used when you're short on time.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Kewpie mayo - Kewpie mayo is a Japanese brand of mayonnaise that's made with just egg yolks instead of a whole egg which makes it a deeper yellow color and extra smooth and creamy. It's not just plain mayo, it's savory, tangly, and a little bit sweet. It has a distinct umami flavor.
    • Different hot sauce - Chili garlic sauce would be a great option for this spicy mayo but I usually opt for Sriracha because I like putting the sauce in a squeeze bottle and chili garlic sauce isn't completely smooth. If you don't have sriracha, any hot sauce you like works! Just adjust the amount to your liking based on how hot it is.

Making this sauce couldn't be easier. All you have to do is mix everything together and store it in an airtight jar in the fridge. I like using a medium whisk because it mixes everything together more easily than a spoon.

    1. Add everything to a bowl or a measuring cup and whisk together until smooth and well mixed.
    2. Pour into a jar or a squeeze bottle or an airtight jar and store in the fridge for up to 7 days.

    Serving and Storing

You can easily make this sauce ahead of time and store it in an airtight jar in the fridge for about a week. I like to make it while I'm meal-prepping for the week ahead to have it ready for drizzling on everything!

You can add it to burgers instead of the classic house sauce, spread it on sandwiches or drizzle it on any grain, rice, or salad bowl. Try it on this Teriyaki Salmon Bowl!

    FAQs

Can I use a different hot sauce?

Yes, you can use any hot sauce you have on hand. Adjust the amount based on how spicy the sauce is and your heat preference.

    Can I freeze this sauce?

I don't recommend freezing it, it's best eaten fresh.

Is chipotle mayo the same as spicy mayo?

This spicy mayo is made with sriracha. Chipotle mayo has chipotle peppers that give it its distinct smoky flavor which isn't found in regular spicy mayo.

Is spicy mayo like yum yum sauce?

Yum yum sauce has ketchup and paprika which would make it more similar to house sauce (also called fry sauce). Regular spicy mayo doesn't have either.
