Why This Recipe Works
Refreshing and tropical - Pineapple and passion fruit are the perfect summer flavor combination! It's gonna immediately make you feel like you're on a summer vacation! If you want to try something with just pineapple, try this Pineapple Agua Fresca!
Real fruit - Starbucks uses grape juice and flavorings but this drink only uses real pineapple juice and passion fruit puree that give it a lot more flavor. It tastes so fresh, perfectly sweet without any added sugar, and so refreshing!
Just like Starbucks - Although it doesn't use the exact same ingredients as the original from Starbucks, it tastes just like it and better!
Easy to make - All you have to do is combine all the ingredients in a big pitcher and add water and ice. Super simple and perfect for a crowd!
Ingredients
- Pineapple juice - The drink from Starbucks is made with grape juice and pineapple flavor, there is no actual pineapple juice in the original drink. I like to make it with 100% pineapple juice though, ideally not from concentrate.
- Lemon juice - Freshly squeezed juice is preferred whenever possible. It makes a huge difference in the flavor of the drink!
- Passion fruit - I recommend using passion fruit puree. I use frozen cubed passion fruit with the seeds removed. If you don't have it available near you, you can use passion fruit pulp from fresh passion fruit and remove the seeds using a strainer.
- Water - You can add as much or as little as you want. There is no sweetener so the sweetness of the drink depends on how much water you add.
- Chopped pineapple - Starbucks uses freeze-dried pineapple chunks in their drink but since they can be hard to find and expensive, I used fresh diced pineapple instead.
Variations and Substitutions
- Sparkling water - You can add soda or sparkling water instead of still water to turn it into a soft drink or a mocktail. I like flavored ones with no added sugar.
- Lime juice - If you don't have lemons, you can use limes instead.
- Orange juice - To add even more flavor, you can add some freshly squeezed orange juice too.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add pineapple juice, water, lemon juice, and passion fruit puree into a large jug.
- Allow the passion fruit to melt and stir to mix it with the juice.
Serving and Storing
- Fill your glasses with ice and diced pineapple as garnish.
- Pour the drink over the ice and enjoy!
You can also add ice and diced pineapple to the pitcher but it will water down the drink slightly.
Storing: Store any leftovers in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.
FAQs
Yes, totally! You can strain the passion fruit pulp into the drink through a fine mesh strainer. You can also add it whole with the seeds but it's more pleasant to drink without the seeds.
I didn't add any to the recipe because I didn't find it needs any but if you prefer your drinks sweeter, I recommend adding some cane sugar or agave syrup.
