    The Best Vegan Popcorn

This is hands down the best vegan popcorn I've ever made! The perfect amount of salty and cheesy while still keeping it vegan. It actually tastes just like the one at the movies!

When I was testing the recipe for the first time, I tried it and was immediately brought to my childhood. I don't buy the popcorn they sell at the movie theaters anymore because there's a lot of ingredients in it I'd rather avoid, not to mention the huge amount of salt. This popcorn tastes almost exactly the same as the one I used to buy as a kid! Bingo.

The Best Vegan Popcorn - a delicious blend of nutritional yeast, garlic, onion powder, and other spices sprinkled over popcorn made with avocado oil.

I'm actually genuinely happy with this recipe. The blend of the spices is so simple and so easy to put together, yet the popcorn tastes all fancy and delicious.

What spices I used to make The Best vegan popcorn:

    • Garlic powder
    • Onion powder
    • Paprika
    • Cayenne pepper
    • Sea salt
    • Nutritional Yeast (probably the most important ingredient here)

Nutritional Yeast is what adds the cheesy flavor to the popcorn. There's honestly nothing like it. If you've never tried Nutritional Yeast before, definitely give it a try! It's so good.

How to make the seasoning stick to the popcorn?

Avocado oil in a spray bottle.

You can either but it already in a bottle or if they don't have it at your grocery store, just DIY it. All you need is some avocado oil and a spray bottle! It works like magic, I can't believe I hadn't thought of this before. Just give the popcorn a few spritzes and the seasoning will stick perfectly to it.

This recipe yields 4 cups of popcorn. Feel free to double or triple the recipe but make sure to never add more than ¼ cup of kernels into the pot at once. Overcrowding the popcorn will result in burning.

    Description

This is hands down the most delicious popcorn I've ever made! The perfect amout of salty and cheesy while still keeping it vegan. Tastes just like the one at the movies! This recipe yields 4 cups of popcorn. Feel free to double or triple the recipe but make sure to never add more than ¼ cup of kernels into the pot at once. Overcrowding the popcorn will result in burning.

    Ingredients

    Units Scale

    Seasoning:

    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • ½ tsp onion powder
    • ½ tsp paprika
    • ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper (i.e. a pinch, or more to taste)
    • ½ tsp sea salt
    • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast

    Popcorn:

    • ¼ cup popping corn
    • 1 tbsp avocado oil*

    Instructions

    Seasoning:

    1. In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients and set aside.

    Popcorn:

    1. Add the oil into a big pot on the stove over high heat.
    2. When hot, add 1 kernel, cover with a lid and wait for it to pop. Once it does, scoop it out with a spoon.
    3. Add the ¼ cup of corn kernels, cover the pot with a lid and shake to spread the kernels out.
    4. They should start popping soon. Keep shaking the pot to avoid burning the popcorn.
    5. Once the popping stops or there are gaps in between pops longer than 3 seconds, take off the heat. Don't try to pop every single kernel.
    6. Pour the popcorn into a bowl and add oil (see notes) and the seasoning. Toss to coat and enjoy.

    Notes

    * Besides the 1 tablespoon for cooking the popcorn, I used avocado oil in a spray bottle. Just spray the popcorn a little after you place it in the bowl, before you season it, to help the seasoning stick better to the popcorn. Important: Make sure you're careful when handing the pot while making the popcorn. It's EXTREMELY HOT. The oil is very hot and so is the steam after you remove the lid so please only handle it with mittens and be careful.

What a great tip to use Avocado oil in a spray bottle to make the spices stick. Love it and will definitively try it. Love all the various spices you recommend. I'm usually quite simple, but I'm going to give this a try. Cheers.
