Description

This drink is inspired by the Starbucks Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. It's made with homemade syrup and it's super easy and simple!

Ingredients

Units Scale

Apple Brown Sugar Syrup

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 small apples, core removed, diced (2 cups diced)
  • 1/2 tsp apple pie spice
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

  • 2-3 shots of espresso
  • 2 tbsp apple brown sugar syrup
  • Large handful ice
  • 1/3-1/2 cup oat milk
  • Ground cinnamon (as garnish, optional)

Instructions

Apple Brown Sugar Syrup

  1. Add brown sugar, water, diced apples, and apple pie spice to a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves to make sure it doesn’t burn.
  3. Lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes stirring occasionally.
  4. Take the syrup off the heat, stir in vanilla extract and allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Strain the syrup into a large jar or a bowl through a fine mesh strainer. Use a spoon to squeeze out as much syrup out of the apples as possible.
  6. Transfer the syrup to an airtight jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Wait for the syrup to cool completely before closing with a lid.

Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

  1. Brew 2-3 shots of espresso and add them to a large mason jar with apple brown sugar syrup and ice.
  2. Shake the jar vigorously for at least 5 seconds until very frothy.
  3. Pour the drink into a tall glass (including the ice) and top with oat milk.
  4. Lightly dust the drink with cinnamon if desired and enjoy!

Notes

  • The recipe yields 1 ⅓ cup syrup which makes about 12 servings if you use 2 tbsp per serving.
  • If you want a stronger molasses flavor, use dark brown sugar instead.
  • Starbucks drink size measurements:
    • Tall: 2 shots espresso, 1-2 tbsp syrup, ¼ cup oat milk
    • Grande: 3 shots espresso, 2-3 tbsp syrup, ⅓ cup oat milk
    • Venti: 4 shots espresso, 3-4 tbsp syrup, ½ cup oat milk
  • Starbucks shaken espresso generally has less milk and more coffee than a regular latte would have. I usually end up adding ½ to a grande size but it depends on your preference.
  • Similar store-bought syrups: Torani or Monin.
