Units Scale

Orange Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup cane sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • The zest of 1 orange, chopped (remove as much of the white parts as possible, see notes)

Iced Orange Matcha Latte

  • 1 tsp matcha powder, sifted
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1/2-3/4 cup milk (almond, light coconut, or cashew are great dairy-free options)
  • 2 tbsp orange simple syrup
  • Ice
  • Garnish: a slice of orange (optional)

Instructions

Orange Simple Syrup

  1. Add sugar, water, and orange zest into a small saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Take off the heat and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before removing the orange zest.
  5. Pour the syrup into an airtight glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Iced Orange Matcha Latte

  1. Sift matcha into a cup or a small bowl and add hot water.
  2. Use a matcha whisk or a handheld milk frother to whisk the matcha until smooth and frothy.
  3. Add milk and orange syrup to a tall glass and fill it with ice.
  4. Pour the whisked matcha over the ice.
  5. Serve with a straw garnished with a slice of orange if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

Orange zest: the soft white part of the orange is bitter and should be cut off. The best way to do this is to zest the orange using a vegetable peeler.

Orange syrup: The syrup makes about 10 servings and lasts for up to 2 weeks. You can half the recipe if needed or freeze your leftovers.
